Local Landmarks

Monticello’s Local Landmark Process allows property owners and community members to recognize and protect buildings, sites, and structures that have historical, architectural, or cultural significance. Through this process, eligible properties can be formally designated as local landmarks, ensuring their unique character is preserved for future generations.

The Historic Preservation Commission oversees the nomination, review, and designation process. Landmark status can offer both recognition and guidance for appropriate maintenance or restoration efforts, helping preserve Monticello’s rich heritage while supporting thoughtful growth.
