MCUS provides a sewer average program that accommodates higher water usage during summer months related to watering, irrigation, pool filling, etc.
In accordance with City Ordinance 2013-52, "For the months of June, July, August, and September, the City shall bill the user for wastewater services using the amount equal to the average monthly wastewater bill for that user for the preceding eight months (i.e., total wastewater charges for October, November, December, January, February, March, April and May...)"
During the four months indicated in the Ordinance (June - September), your billed sewer usage will not exceed your average monthly water usage from October - May. For example, if you use 10 units of water in June due to watering, but your October - May average is 5 units, your billed sewer in June will be 5 units. Remember that sewer average provides a cap, so if you use 4 units of water in June, but your October - May average is 5 units, your billed sewer in June will be the lesser amount, 4 units.
It is important to know when sewer average begins for your billing cycle. If you need to fill a pool or water new sod outside of the delineated sewer average period for your billing cycle, MCUS may be able to help if you notify us in advance.
If you have any questions or concerns about sewer averaging and how it impacts your bill, please contact MCUS at (217) 762-2583 or mcus@cityofmonticello.net.
