The public is invited to participate as a representative of community in an important project for Monticello’s future- preparing a new comprehensive land use plan for Monticello. The existing land use plan was adopted in 2014, and while we’ve accomplished a lot, the local economy and growth patterns it was based on are inconsistent with the trends we are seeing. Much in the community has changed since then, and it is time to prepare a new plan that will help us reach new goals for the community. The City has retained Northern Illinois University’s Center for Governmental Studies to prepare the plan, and we are excited to see them facilitate this project.
The Comprehensive Land Use Plan guides the community on decisions regarding new development and changes to existing development. It includes a future land use map indicating how different areas in the community will be used. Topics like transportation, quality of life components, and open space also are addressed. It includes design guidelines and implementation strategies to better our services as we prepare for the next 20 years.
Please take a few minutes to think about what direction you would like to see Monticello head towards over the next 20 years. Complete the short survey, add some comments on the interactive map, and keep up to date on events surrounding the City’s Comprehensive Plan process. Those who complete the survey can choose to be entered into drawings for Monticello Chamber bucks!
