Nick's Park Renovation

The City has been working towards a replacement plan for Nick’s Community park, due to the
age and deterioration of the wooden playground structures over time, as well as updated safety
regulations that the City must adhere to because it is a public park.  In August of 2016, the City
Council approved a 5-year master plan for the redevelopment of the park.

This year, the playground equipment and area will be completely replaced.  Wanting to continue
the nature theme, and with the support of the Sanantonio family, the playground will be natural
colors, and include peaked towers and climbing boulders.  The play equipment is all-inclusive and
meets accessibility requirements.   The playground will be completely fenced in, and a sidewalk
will be installed surrounding the entire play area.  A new entrance monument, as well as addition
of Gabby's Gazebo will be included in the park this year.  Monticello Rotary and the Kirby Hospital
Foundation have generously contributed towards a merry-go-all, and the Monticello Recreation
Foundation has also donated towards this project.  An archway, and multiple bike racks constructed
by the Monticello High School Industrial Arts students will also be included in this year's renovation.

Future improvements allow for construction of a plaza by the pavilion, a feature playground piece,
open grass field, continuation of the bike trail through the park, side-street parking, and various
train-themed equipment and features throughout the park.  The existing pavilion will also be updated
with improvements.
