Going into business for yourself can be an exciting and rewarding experience, financially and personally. But it also requires much hard work and planning. Planning is especially important in setting up the framework of a business and is necessary for the successful start and continuation of a small business.

To facilitate this process, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has created an all-inclusive website for potential or seasoned entrepreneurs. In addition, the State of Illinois Business Portal can help at any stage of the business cycle.

The Tabor Center For Entrepreneurship at Millikin University also provides valuable assistance to persons wanting to start a business.  The website has a wealth of downloadable resource materials including business planning and financial templates and links to several helpful websites.

Businesses looking to relocate to Monticello and the State of Illinois will also find this website helpful for seeking information on business registrations, tax filings, and labor.

Additional local resources for entrepreneurs include the award winning Monticello Main Street Program that offers a façade grant for qualifying businesses and the Monticello Chamber of Commerce, a branch of the Decatur, Illinois SCORE office.
