  • 65 acre section located at the old gravel pit.
  • 153 Acre section located at the Bridge St. entrance to Monticello.  38 acres of this is used for the Conservation Reserve Program.  This program allows for the reforestation of the river bottom.  This land was purchased through a grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation.
  • September 17, 2005.  The First Annual Sangamon River Cleanup Event was held.  The purpose of this event was to remove trash, garbage, appliances, tires, etc.  The focus areas included the river and adjacent banks thru Lodge Park, City of Monticello, and Allerton Park.  Over 150 volunteers showed up to help with this event.  This has now become an annual event.  Contributors to Celebrate the Sangamon included: Allerton Park, ADM, Piatt County Forest Preserve, Prairie Rivers Network, Champaign County Forest Preserve, Kirby Ambulance, The Nature Conservatory, The City of Monticello, Monticello Fire and Rescue, Monticello Chamber of Commerce, Monticello Main Street, and Piatt County ESDA.
