Greetings from the Mayor of Monticello

Thanks for visiting the official website of Monticello, Illinois.  Whether you seek property or demographic information for economic development purposes, charts depicting the State of the City, or want to learn more about programs available through the City's recreation department, you'll find everything you need right here on this website. 

Monticello's location in the East Central region of Illinois provides a great location for business, commercial and industrial interests.  The City sits adjacent to major east-west and north-south freeways that connect Monticello businesses and residents with the rest of the world.  

The City of Monticello values tradition and service as well as modern conveniences and is recognized annually by the National Main Street Trust for successfully combining both vintage and cosmopolitan attributes. 

To say our City has everything is no exaggeration. Excellent city services are demanded by and delivered to our citizens all while maintaining one of the lowest city property tax rates in downstate Illinois. With exceptional schools, a variety of housing options, growing businesses, fine dining, a thriving downtown, parks and trails, a highly acclaimed hospital, a low crime rate, and plenty of small town charm and hospitality, Monticello satisfies even the most discriminating.  

A major City emphasis continues to be retail, commercial, and light industrial development at the Pepsin area, and the Route 105 and I-72 interchange at the north entrance to the City.

The City is excited to be a neighbor to the University of Illinois Allerton Park, which was recently designated one of the Seven Wonders of Illinois!  The park is a nature wonderland, a conference center, and through the College of Music at the University of Illinois, will be hosting music festivals at the old Music Barn.  I invite you to tour the park and enjoy the ambiance of this county treasure.
