Waste collection is a volume based user fee (sticker) program. Although participation in Monticello's curbside recycling program is not mandatory, the waste program is designed to encourage residents to recycle because doing so will reduce the volume of your trash and lower your disposal costs.
Households are required to purchase waste stickers from their waste hauler and use one sticker per bag of trash. If more convenient, the stickers may be purchased at First State Bank of Monticello, Central Illinois Bank (CIB), or County Market in Monticello. Trash bags may be placed curbside or put in a rigid container for curbside collection. Each bag must have a sticker attached to it. Unstickered bags WILL NOT be picked up.
Citizens participating in the recycling program are asked to put accepted household and consumer waste recyclables into a separate bin and place it at curbside, along with any trash bags, for collection on trash pick up day. Recycling bins may be purchased at the Municipal Building, 210 N. Hamilton Street.
