When is my Sewer bill mailed? Your monthly sewer charge is included with your water bill. The bill will show the combined water and sewer charges.
How is my sewer charge figured? To figure the sewer charge, your sewer average must first be calculated. Each January your sewer average is refigured based on your water consumption in the billing months of January, February, March, October, November and December of the prior year. The sewer average is the average consumption from these 6 months usage. Your sewer average and sewer charge will remain the same, each month, for the entire year. If you move within Monticello, your sewer average will follow you. When the sewer ordinance was established, the average monthly usage for the town was an 8 usage; therefore, new residents are given an 8 average until the following January when they have their own water history to base an average on. Most residents benefit from using the winter months water average to determine their monthly sewer bills. The majority of people use more water in the summer months from watering lawns and gardens, washing vehicles, filling swimming pools, or taking additional showers. The ordinance was established to create a fair sewer charge for our residents. Since a large portion of the water consumed in the summer is not going into the City Sewer, Monticello felt it would not be fair to bill our customers for this water.
The monthly sewer charge is $2.50 times your sewer average + $1.00 billing charge.
For example if your sewer average is an 8, your monthly sewer bill will be:
($2.50 x 8) + $1.00 = $21.00
There is a minimum sewer charge is $3.50.
As a commercial user, the monthly sewer charge is based on each monthly water usage.
