When is the City Hall open? The City of Monticello Municipal Building is open Mondays through Fridays 8:00am to 5:00pm, unless the day is a designated holiday.

When does the landscape waste facility open? The landscape waste facility or “the dump” as it is known to locals, opens for the season April 1st and will remain open through November.
What are City Clean-up Days? City Clean-up Days are an opportunity for residents to take out their “not-so-usual” garbage (furniture, appliances, etc) to the landscape waste facility to dispose of for a nominal fee. Disposal of items is charged by the vehicle-load, with some additional fees applying to items with Freon or other materials that require special disposal. All electronic items must be separated but will be accepted.

Visit www.MonticelloEnews for up to date information; watch the City Council meetings on Channel 2, which broadcast daily at 10am and 7pm; Read the approved City Council meeting minutes, available online; Ask a member of the City Council or City Staff; Become a fan of the City's Facebook page!
What is Channel 2? Channel 2 is Monticello’s own public access channel, available to Mediacom subscribers. Scheduled programming includes City Council meetings, Parkland College TV programs, Monticello sporting and entertainment events, Illinois Channel programs, educational programming and more! In addition, a bulletin board runs between scheduled programming to inform of community events and notices.
Do I need a permit to build a fence? Yes. Contact our Building Inspector for permits on fences, houses, additions, pools, decks, and other building projects.
I’m thinking of relocating to Monticello. Who do I contact for a relocation packet? Contact the Monticello Chamber of Commerce at 217.762.7921.
Where can I report a streetlight outage? The City of Monticello reports streetlight outages directly to Ameren IP. You can call the City building at 217.762.2583 to report an outage.
Is burning allowed in Monticello? No, burning of landscape waste or garbage is not allowed within the Monticello city limits.
Where do I purchase a recycling bin? Purchase a recycling bin at the City of Monticello Municipal Building. Bins are $8 and the City ordinance allows one per household.
I want to operate a business out of my home. Do I need to register with the City? While the City does not require businesses to register, it’s always a good idea to check with the City on zoning compliance for all home-based businesses. Depending on the nature of your business, you may be required to receive a conditional use permit in order to operate out of your home.
