Located in the heart of Piatt County, Illinois, Monticello is an ideal place for business location and expansion.  In 2007, over a dozen businesses relocated to Monticello and several existing businesses have begun plans for expansion into larger facilities.

The Department of Economic Development offers several routes and sources for parties interested in starting businesses.  Services include business retention and expansion assistance, business recruitment, site selection assistance, workforce development training, locating local, state, and federal financing options, and access to community profile data including labor force statistics.

Through the Ameren-sponsored LocationOne Information System, the City of Monticello's Department of Economic Development maintains an active database for browsers to view existing buildings and sites, as well as current demographics on the community.

In 2006, the Monticello City Council adopted a Tax Increment Finance District (TIF) #2, which includes several areas ideal for development.  The TIF District allows the City of Monticello to assist existing businesses in improvements, as well as attract new businesses to locate within the district.

The City Council recently established an Economic Advisory Committee (EAC), consisting of 15 members with relative interest invested in the City of Monticello.  The EAC was created with the mission and purpose to enhance the economic prosperity and quality of life in the Monticello community, and serves as an advisor to the City Council.

The objective of each of these efforts is to market the City of Monticello's many economic advantages in order to benchmark the competitiveness of our local economy and maintain a strong and diverse revenue and job base.  Each department within the City is dedicated to promoting the City's positive economic climate.
