Office of Community and Economic Development
The mission of the City of Monticello's Community and Economic Development Office (CEDO) is to facilitate the conditions for business and community growth and development by promoting economic programs designed to create and enhance a diverse sustainable local economy, and to seek out new opportunities for the Monticello area.
The efforts of the City of Monticello's CEDO include:
- Community marketing to new and prospective businesses.
- Update the web-based community profile data used by potential and existing businesses, metro-area developers, and site selection companies on a regular basis.
- Maintain a database of available commercial and industrial site and properties within the community.
- Provide up-to-date information on financial assistance programs from local, state, and federal resources. Assist with application process.
- Meet and assist entrepreneurs and companies considering relocation.
- Strengthen professional ties with economic development cohorts in other communities and in partnering companies and agencies.
- Identify and address barriers to property redevelopment.
- Enrich Monticello's attraction for site selection.
- Maintain the business retention and expansion program.
- Promote area workforce training and development programs. Secure training funds for companies interested in participating.
- Monitor state and national business trends via personal contacts, the Internet and subscriptions to business and commerce publications.
- Create avenues for citizen participation for input in future community development activities.
- Support the regional approach to economic development by working with area communities in leveraging assets to attract businesses.
- Participate in continuing education programs on a local, state, and national level to keep up with best practices.
- Engage in pro-business legislative activities. Communicate with state and national legislators and policymakers.
- Maintain MonticelloEnews.com and local cable tv access Channel 2. Supply area media with leads and news stories to maximize promotion efforts thru clipping services.
