Welcome to the City of Monticello website. I hope you enjoy your tour while you're here. Let me share a few things with you about the City that you may not pick up here on the website.
We enjoy the privilege of being the Piatt County seat. We are protected by one of the most well-trained and best equipped fire departments for a city of our size. Our full and part time police department staff are kept up to date with the most current law enforcement techniques and equipment available which helps make ours one of the most secure communitiess in the area.
Many of our tree-lined streets are populated with beautiful historic homes. If you're looking for more contemporary living, we have five fine modern subdivisions, and our notable downtown business district is recognized on the national registry of historic districts.
We offer one of the finest school districts in all of Central Illinois, along with three retirement living centers and two medical facilities.
Recreation opportunities are abundant and continually growing. Our city recreation staff has put together programs for kids of all ages from summer little league baseball, softball and T-ball, fall soccer and the junior football leagues, to winter indoor swimming lessons. I can't forget to mention that we will have a brand new community outdoor swimming pool where you will be able to participate in summer swim lessons, swim team competitions, or simply splash around and lounge in the sun!
Our business community offers you everything from groceries to appliances, a new car to a new garden tractor, and nearly everything else you can image- all extremelycompetitively priced. There is very little you can't find in Monticello that would make you leave town to buy it!
Finally, I would like to point out that probably the biggest assets that we have are the people that live here. I invite you to stop anywhere in town whether it's the library or post office, a business or the municipal building, and you will find a warm greeting and an easy conversation. Feel free to visit me during my office hours Tuesdays through Thursdays, 10:00am to 11:00am, or email me at mayor@cityofmonticello.net.
